In 2017 it was hard to find anything resembling a Jewish community. While other islands in the Caribbean, such as Barbados and Jamaica, have Jewish communities that date back hundreds of years to Sephardic Jews fleeing Spain and Portugal during the Spanish Inquisition, St. Lucia never had a dedicated synagogue building or an active Jewish community.
Now, about 200 Jewish residents live on the island at least part of the year, with tens of thousands of Jewish vacationers passing through St Lucia annually.
